Due to the projected shortages of R-22, the recovery and reuse of recycled refrigerant could become a profitable endeavor. Since virtually all companies will find it necessary to service, repair or replace their HVAC/R units prior to 2020, the phase-out provisions have created an opportunity for companies to not only "go green" but also to find revenue through the reuse of their own assets.
All reclaimed and banked refrigerant that is to be reused must meet AHRI-700 purity specifications. The purpose of this standard is to establish purity specifications, to verify composition, and to specify the associated methods of testing for acceptability of fluorocarbon refrigerants regardless of source (new, reclaimed and/or repackaged) for use in new and existing refrigeration and air-conditioning products within the scope of AHRI. The standard is available for free download at below.
