R-22 Phase Out & Industry News

In 2015, projected servicing demand of 38,800 metric tons of R-22 is estimated, which is over the 2015 consumption cap by 40 percent under Scenario 20.  This leads to a projected shortfall of 5,051,000 pounds of R-22 (2,191 metric tons).  That is over 2.5 million tons of air conditioning!

NOTE: If the industry as a whole becomes better stewards of their resources, then the higher recovery and reuse (Scenario 50) indicates that supplies from recovered R-22 can satisfy enough of the demand to prevent a shortage of refrigerant supply.
